Getting Started

What does Service Sticker do?

It tracks maintenance for your vehicles. For each vehicle you create maintenance items (oil change, tires, brakes, registration, etc.), then log a service record each time work is done. The app tells you what's coming due — by mileage, by date, or both.

What do I need to use it?

An iPhone or iPad on iOS/iPadOS 18 or later. To keep your data backed up and synced across your devices, sign in to iCloud (Settings app → your name → iCloud). iCloud sync is free and on by default.

The app asked me to pick Miles or Kilometers on first launch. Can I change it later?

Yes — Settings (gear icon) → Appearance/Units → Distance unit. Important: this only changes the label. Your numbers are never converted, so if you switch from Miles to Kilometers, "76,845" stays "76,845" — it just reads "km" instead of "miles."

How do I add my first vehicle?

Tap the + button in the vehicle list. Give it a name (e.g. "2009 Honda Ridgeline"). Optionally pick an icon and color. Tap Save.

Vehicles & Maintenance Items

What's the difference between a maintenance item and a service record?

A maintenance item is a recurring task you track (e.g. "Oil Change — every 5,000 miles"). A service record is a single time you performed that task (e.g. "Oil changed on Jan 12 at 74,200 miles"). One item holds many records.

How do I add a maintenance item?

Open a vehicle, tap the ••• menu → Add Maintenance Item. Enter a name and how often it's due: a mileage interval, a time interval (months or years), or both.

Can an item be due by both mileage and time?

Yes. Set both intervals and the app treats it as due whenever the first one is reached — e.g. "every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first."

What are the "detail fields" on an item?

Optional extra fields you define per item (e.g. Oil Type, Filter Type, Shop). When you log a service, you'll be prompted to fill them in, and the app suggests values you've entered before for that vehicle.

How do I edit a vehicle's name or icon?

Open the vehicle → ••• menu → Edit Vehicle (Name / Icon).

How do I edit an existing maintenance item?

You can change a maintenance item's name, its intervals, its detail fields, or its attachments at any time. To edit an item:

  1. Open the vehicle and go to its Service Board.
  2. Swipe left on the maintenance item you want to change.
  3. Tap Edit (the blue pencil).
  4. Update the name, mileage interval, time interval (months/years), or detail fields, then tap Save.

You can turn a mileage or time interval on or off, or switch an item from mileage-based to date-based (or both) — just toggle the one you want and enter a value.

What happens to the "next due" date when I change an interval?

The app automatically recalculates when the item is next due based on the new interval and your most recent service record. For example, if you change an oil change from every 5,000 miles to every 3,000 miles, the next-due mileage updates right away — no need to log a new service.

The one exception: if you had manually set a custom next-due value on the last service record, the app keeps your manual value instead of overwriting it. Your past service records are never changed.

Logging Service & Due Dates

How do I record that I did some work?

On the vehicle's Service Board, swipe a maintenance item and choose Log Service (or open the item and tap +). Enter the date, the odometer reading, any detail fields, and notes. Save.

Where do I enter my current odometer / mileage?

There's no separate odometer field. The app uses the highest mileage from any service record as your estimated odometer. So just log service records with their mileage, and the odometer keeps itself up to date. On a brand-new vehicle with no records yet, the odometer is hidden until you log the first one.

How does the app decide something is "Due soon" vs "Overdue"?

For each item it compares the next-due point to your estimated odometer and today's date. Due soon means within about 1,000 miles/km or 30 days. Overdue means the due point has passed. Items are grouped on the board as Overdue → Due soon → Up to date → No history.

Can I override the next-due mileage or date for one record?

Yes. When logging or editing a record, the next-due fields are pre-filled from the interval but you can change them for that record.

What does "No history" mean?

The item has no service records yet, so the app can't project a due point. Log one service and it'll start tracking.

Receipts & Attachments

Can I attach receipts or documents?

Yes, and it's free. You can attach photos and PDFs to either a maintenance item (reference docs) or a service record (receipts/invoices).

How do I add one?

While editing a record or item, use the Photo, Camera, or PDF buttons. Photos come from your library or camera; PDFs come from the Files app. Tap a thumbnail to view it full screen.

Why does an attachment show a little cloud icon?

That means the file is stored in your iCloud but hasn't downloaded to this device yet. Tap it (or wait a moment on Wi-Fi) and it will download.

Do photos take up a lot of space?

Photos are automatically resized on import to keep your iCloud storage and sync manageable, while staying clear enough to read a receipt. PDFs are stored as-is.

Free Version & Pro

What's included for free?

One vehicle, up to five maintenance items total, and unlimited service records. Attachments and iCloud sync are free too.

What does Pro unlock?

Unlimited vehicles, unlimited maintenance items, CSV export of all your data, and per-vehicle PDF reports. It's a one-time purchase, not a subscription.

How much is it?

The current price is shown on the upgrade screen (Settings → Unlock Pro), in your local currency.

I hit a paywall when adding a second vehicle / sixth item. Is that a bug?

No — that's the free-tier limit. Unlock Pro to go beyond one vehicle or five items.

The whole app went read-only and shows an "Editing locked" banner. What happened?

Your data is over the free limit (more than one vehicle or more than five items) and Pro isn't active on this device. This can happen after a refund, a Family Sharing change, or syncing existing data onto a device that hasn't purchased. Your data is safe and still syncs. To edit again, either unlock Pro (or Restore Purchases), or delete vehicles/items until you're back under the limit. Deleting is always allowed, even while locked.

Does Family Sharing share my vehicles too?

No. Family Sharing shares the Pro unlock with your family group, but each person's vehicle data stays in their own private iCloud. It is not shared or merged.

I bought Pro but a device shows it as locked. How do I fix it?

Open Settings → Restore Purchases. This matters because your purchase is tied to your App Store account, while your data syncs via your iCloud account — if those differ, or you're on a new device, Restore reconnects the purchase.

iCloud Sync

How does syncing work?

Automatically and privately through your iCloud account. Make a change on one device and it appears on your others, usually within seconds to a minute. There's nothing to set up beyond being signed in to iCloud.

Is my data private?

Yes. It's stored in your own private iCloud database. It isn't shared with the developer and isn't used for tracking or advertising.

What happens if I'm signed out of iCloud?

The app still works — your data stays on that device. It just won't sync until you sign back in.

Where can I see sync status?

Settings → Sync. It shows the current state (Idle, Importing, Exporting, etc.) and the time of the last sync activity. "Waiting for activity" right after launch is normal; it updates once syncing runs.

I set up a second device and it's empty. What do I do?

Make sure both devices are signed in to the same iCloud account with iCloud enabled, and give it a minute on Wi-Fi. Sync is eventual, not instant.

Exports (Pro)

How do I export all my data?

Settings → Export All Data (CSV). You'll get a .zip containing three spreadsheets (vehicles, items, records) plus a folder of your attachments. Share it to Files, Mail, AirDrop, etc.

Can I open the export in Excel or Numbers?

Yes. The CSV files open directly in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets. Each record's custom detail fields appear as their own columns.

How do I get a printable report for one vehicle?

Open the vehicle → ••• menu → Export Vehicle Report (PDF). It lists every maintenance item sorted by urgency, with status colors, plus the estimated odometer and report date. Share or print it.

Is there a way to import data into the app?

Not in this version. Export is one-way (for your records, backup, or spreadsheets).

Settings & Personalization

Can I use Dark Mode?

Yes. Settings → Appearance → System / Light / Dark. This is per-device and isn't synced, so each of your devices can differ.

Can I give each vehicle its own icon?

Yes, it's optional. When creating or editing a vehicle, pick a type (sedan, SUV, pickup, van, motorcycle) and one of eight colors (default blue). The icon appears in the vehicle list, the vehicle header, and the PDF report.

Why is a white vehicle icon shown on a gray background?

So it stays visible in both Light and Dark mode — a white icon on a white screen would disappear, so every icon sits on a subtle neutral chip.

Troubleshooting

The camera option isn't showing when I add an attachment.

The Camera button only appears on devices with a camera. On a Mac (running the iPad app) or where no camera is available, use Photo or PDF instead.

Suggestions when typing a detail field seem limited to one vehicle.

That's intentional — autocomplete suggests values you've used for that same vehicle, so one vehicle's shop or oil type doesn't clutter another's.

My distance numbers didn't change when I switched miles/km.

Correct — switching the unit changes only the label, never the number. There's no conversion by design, so your recorded readings stay exactly as entered.

I deleted something by accident.

Deletions sync across your devices and can't be undone from within the app. If a device is briefly offline, you may be able to catch it before it syncs, but treat deletes as permanent.

Something still isn't working.
